The last train to Clarksville…

Simon and Garfunkel might be so 1978, but that shouldn’t stop you from checking out Amtrak’s Weekly Specials (available only Tuesday through Friday). Recent fare specials have included $8 one-way to St. Louis, $12 one-way to Indianapolis, and as low as $24 one-way to Washington, D.C. or Boston. Tickets are limited to a certain number per train, so it’s best to check as soon as the fares are posted on Tuesdays to score the lowest prices.

Amtrak also offers a Guest Rewards program — similar to the airlines’ frequent flier programs — with bonus points available all summer long (June 1-August 31, 2009), or for referring friends or shopping with Amtrak partners. And for our readers with children, Amtrak always offers 50% off children’s fares when kiddos travel with an accompanying adult. Now go rail away!
