Wicker Park Fest returns to… Wicker Park
A darling of the indie music crowd since 2004, the annual Wicker Park Fest has grown into one of the most well-attended neighborhood festivals in the city. This year, the fest — running Saturday July 25 & Sunday July 26 — features three live music stages — including headliners Treaty of Paris, The New Deal, and Grand Duchy (Friday); Junior Boys, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, and the Smoking Popes (Sunday). Past years’ festivals have been semi-kid-friendly, offering a good mix of concessions and goods for sale, enough room to avoid being squished, and street performers (including the always entertaining mix of fire, juggling, and swords).
After the fest, late-night after-concerts include Jamie Lidell with Tortured Soul at the Congress Theatre on Saturday and The Omega Moos w/ Wyllys at the Double Door on Sunday.
Wicker Park Fest (Milwaukee Ave. between North Ave. and Wood St.) runs 12n-10pm, Sat-Sun July 25-26. A suggested $5 donation benefits the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce. See www.silverwrapper.com for a full schedule of performers as well as ticket information for the after-concerts.
